Results:

-
Congratulations! To GM Alex Moiseyev from Dublin, Ohio as the highest finisher of the 2025
VA Open & District 4 Tournament, but only a resident of Virginia is recognized as
a 2025 VA Commonwealth Tournament Winner and the same
for our District 4 champion.
- Congratulations! To MS Ryan Pronk from Chesapeake, VA as our 2025 Virginia Commonwealth Champion
and 2025 District 4 Co-Champion.
-
Congratulations! To MS Teal Stanley Greensboro, NC as our 2025 District 4 Co-Champion
- Congratulations! To MS Dr. John Webster from Stoneville, NC as forth place winner of our 2025 VA Open & District 4 Tournament.
- MS Tim Laverty from Graham, NC attended the tournament but did no play, he was still recovering from recent heart surgery.
- We were able to get a $10.00 discount on our room rate because the Hotel Restaurant / Dinning Room closed their brunch
& dinner menues in addition to discontinuing their continental breakfast, so no more all-you-can-eat buffet, salad & dessert bar.
Only fresh hot coffee was available in the lobby. These things were included in our 1/3/2025
reservation agreement. Management adjusted the rate to $69 instead of $79, so 11.3%
tax made a total of $76.80 per night for a double queen, non-smoking,
downstairs room.
- We only had 6 players attend VA Open & D4 Checker Tournament so Ryan Pronk suggested we should consider playing a one day 5 round,
Round Robin instead of 7 rounds over 2 day. We discussed and decided to play a one day Friday Tournament. The extra $100 savings on playing room expense was applied toward the tournament
budget.
- Buck Smith, President of Old Dominion Checker Association celebrated his 94 birthday on March 16, 1931 and recognized as our oldest player.
- All players paid a $25 entry fee at registration for a total player's fee of $150.00.
- The $1,497.45 Tournament Budget was a combination of $150.00 entry fees, $105 contributions from Ryan Pronk, $100 from Alan Millhone, $100 from Dave Beachy for pizza, $200 from ACF for the playing room, JR & Gayle $142.45, and a $700 withdrawal from the NCCA trust account.
- We played in the "Hagan" and adjoining "Windmill" rooms with six white linen tablecloth 30" W x 96" L tables with 4
padded chairs per table, plus a 30" W x 36" L table for the referee/scorekeeper. NCCA provided a cooler of chilled bottle water for the playing room.
- Alex Moiseyev used the GDT North American time clock which kept his games and the tournament on schedule. We started at 9:00AM and allotted 2.5 hrs per round, Alex
loaded the total round time as: 1 hour, 10 minutes plus 5 seconds per side. He finishing his last round with Teal Stanley at 7:30 PM. Some pairings finished early and
played ahead because the Round Robin pairings were predetermine. The tournament ran smoothly and on time.
- The players decided they wanted Subway sandwiches, chips, & drink instead of pizza so Gayle ordered and delivered lunch at 12:30PM.
- We appreciate ACF, Ryan, Alan, Dave, JR & Gayle, and NCCA for their donations and contributions.
- We offer a big Thank You to all who help make this tournament a success, especially Gayle, our referee and score-keeper.
- JR & Gayle celebrated their 57th anniversary September 15.
